B4.2 MOTIVATION

There needs to exist a shelter for those who need it most. There is a want to design, implement and realize a space created for those without agency and/or means of self preservation. The divide between architects and development is disgusting. We entrust the primary action -- the literal choice to build a specific type of structure/occupancy on a specific piece of land; and having the capital to do so -- up to a group whose most ardent motivation is capital gain and profit. The reason a structure should be melded to a specific piece of land should be solely because that is what ethically should and can go there (do not think of this as a limitation to commercialization, as it is not). Too often is the motivation for creation based in economic gain. Creation rooted in honesty and unbound by fiscal limitation is inherently more infinite in its value. I understand the need for money just as much as I understand the need for food or water; it is an unfortunate component of participating in life as we know it to be. As those in the field of architecture, a responsibility lies upon us to forgo the developer and use our own agency; our own capital; our own ability to create what is necessary in our own environment and ever expanding environments. To become the developer is to hold the ultimate agency in shaping the built environment. In not creating the environment, but helping the built world develop in a a compassionate and progressive manner. It is time to take the agency from those with less than misguided intentions.

There is no link attached with this. Still searching for precedents on the subject.
